Beautiful Twente - 6 days

Day 1 - Arrival in RijssenThe hotel is located just outside Rijssen on the Rijsserberg in an area called the 'Dutch Black Forest'. For the first day, we have set out a small introductory walk (5 km) across the heathland and through the 'ravines'. You can also take a short bike ride (7 km) to Kasteel De Oosterhof and the centre of Rijssen.Day 2 - From Rijssen to Almelo 54 kmYou first cycle to Holten. From there, endless, rolling cycle paths take you over the Salland Ridge to Nijverdal in the north-western tip of Twente. Then the route follows the Regge for many kilometres and cycles along the Doorbraak - a recently created watercourse - to Almelo. In Almelo, we have set out a small city walk to the adjacent Huize Almelo and through the watery centre.Day 3 - From Almelo to Oldenzaal 58 kmIn the north-east of Twente lies the Dal van de Mosbeek/Springendal nature reserve. On the way there, you leave Almelo through the stately Gravenallee and follow the Almelo-Nordhorn Canal. Along Twente's oldest tree you cycle to the water mills of Vasse. On the other side of the Springendal you climb the Kuiperberg for a wide view over Twente. You then descend to Ootmarsum. On the Singraven estate, you come to the pretty stream the Dinkel. Over the Tankenberg - Twente's highest mountain - you cycle to Oldenzaal, where the route ends at the impressive St.-Plechelmusbasilica.Day 4 - From Oldenzaal to Enschede 59 kmFrom Oldenzaal, you look for the eastern border. You reach it at Losser and then follow the Dinkel for kilometres to Gronau in Germany. Through the Aamsveen you cycle to the 'Haarmühle', with a 'Biergarten' (with 'gutbürgerliche' cuisine) surrounded by tall chestnut trees. After a possible break, you cross the border again to the Scottish Highlanders in the Witte Veen. From this south-eastern corner of Twente, you then head north to Enschede, where you first take a short round through the characteristic garden village Pathmos. In Enschede, you can take a circular walk along the Museummijl to the architecturally interesting Roombeek district.Day 5 - From Enschede to Rijssen 59 kmIn the south-western tip of Twente lies Twente's smallest town, Diepenheim. On your way there, you leave Enschede southwards and cycle to the Buurserzand, Twente's first nature reserve. Just below Haaksbergen, you'll find an ideal break spot at the Oostendorper Watermolen. Through the woods of the Lankheet and along quiet roads you will then cycle to the 'stedeke' with its gardens and castles. From Diepenheim, you cycle under the Herikerberg to Rijssen.Day 6 - RijssenAfter breakfast, the holiday ends. Of course, you can still take the walk or bike ride to Castle De Oosterhof on this day.Round trip A - From Rijssen to Twickel Estate 51 or 58 kmOn quiet roads you cycle to the Twente Canal. Along this canal, you cycle to Delden, which is surrounded by the woods and hedgerow landscape of the 4,000-hectare Twickel Estate. In the middle of this estate lies the centuries-old castle whose gardens can be visited. On beautiful cycle paths through vast deciduous forests, you cycle back to Rijssen via Enter and through the 'Schwarzwald'.Round trip B - from Oldenzaal to Tuindorp 't Lansink 51 kmYou leave Oldenzaal through the beautiful Rhododendron avenue and arrive at the former Twente airport, now opened up by cycle paths. Through the woods of Landgoed Espelo you cycle to the UT, the Netherlands' first campus university. On the F35 cycle highway, you head straight to Hengelo where you take a tour through the unique Tuindorp 't Lansink. The route then goes via the Lonnekermeer nature reserve and another part of the airport back to Oldenzaal.
