Beautiful Twente - 4 days

Day 1 - AlmeloThe hotel is located in the centre of Almelo. For the first day, we took a walking tour through the old part of Almelo and through the renewed, watery centre.Day 2 - From Almelo to Oldenzaal 59 kmIn the north-east of Twente lies the Dal van de Mosbeek/Springendal nature reserve. On the way there, you leave Almelo through the stately Gravenallee and follow the Almelo-Nordhorn Canal. Along Twente's oldest tree you cycle to the water mills of Vasse. On the other side of the Springendal you climb the Kuiperberg for a wide view over Twente. You then descend to Ootmarsum. On the Singraven estate, you come to the pretty stream the Dinkel. Over the Tankenberg - Twente's highest mountain - you cycle to Oldenzaal, where the route ends at the impressive St.-Plechelmusbasilica.Day 3 - From Oldenzaal to Enschede 57 kmFrom Oldenzaal, look for the eastern border. This reaches the route at Losser and then follows the Dinkel for kilometres to German Gronau. Through the Aamsveen moor you cycle to the 'Haarmühle', with a 'Biergarten' (with 'gutbürgerliche' cuisine) surrounded by tall chestnut trees. After a possible break, you cross the border again to the Scottish Highlanders in the Witte Veen. From this south-eastern corner of Twente, you then head north to Enschede, first making a small round through the characteristic garden village Pathmos.Day 4 - from Enschede to Almelo 44 kmFrom the hotel, you cycle through the Roombeek district rebuilt after the fireworks disaster to Enschede's new 'gold coast' on the site of the former Twente airbase. There you head south, through the woods to the sprawling campus of the University of Twente. Here, you head directly to Hengelo on the F35 cycle highway, where a tour of the unique Tuindorp 't Lansink is made. Then you cycle over the Twickel Estate to the cosy town of Delden. Through the Twickel woods, it's back to Almelo.
