Along the Vltava - 8 days
Day 1 - České BudějoviceYour hotel is in the historic centre of České Budějovice, not far from the old market square. Around the large, square square are beautiful arcade houses, some of which date back to the 13th century.Day 2 - Roundtrip from České Budějovice to Český Krumlov 60 kmPart way along the Vltava, you cycle to the UNESCO pearl Český Krumlov. This enchanting town (the Venice of the Czech Republic) is one of the most beautiful cities in the Czech Republic. It has a beautiful old centre and a mighty castle complex. Then cycle back to the hotel in České Budějovice.Dag 3 - Van České Budějovice naar Tyn nad Vltavou 40 kmAlong the Vltava, you cycle on quiet, flat roads to one of Bohemia's most beautiful castles: the Tudor castle Hluboka (Frauenberg), an imitation of Windsor Castle in England. The route then passes through many Bohemian villages to Tyn, a small old town on the banks of the Vltava.Day 4 - From Tyn nad Vltavou to Tábor 55 kmToday you leave the Vltava behind and cycle through rolling countryside to the historic ceramic town of Bechyně, on the Lužnice river. Through picturesque forests you continue cycling to Tábor, which was founded in 1420 by Jan Hus and his followers. Tábor possesses a particularly beautiful historic centre with narrow streets and houses in soft pastel colours.Day 5 - From Tábor to Benešov 56 kmThrough the typical Czech hilly landscape you cycle north, 30 kilometres as the crow flies from the Vltava River. Just outside the accommodation in Benešov you will come to the world-famous Konopiště castle. This is where Ferdinand, heir to the throne of the Austro-Hungarian dual monarchy, lived before he was murdered in Sarajevo. More than 300,000 hunting trophies hang in the fairytale castle.Day 6 - From Benešov to Karlštejn 59 kmFrom Benešov you will cycle eastwards on small roads. Halfway through you will cross the Vltava, which forms a reservoir here. Through a hilly nature reserve, which is one of the most important nature reserves in Europe, you will reach Karlštejn. The mighty Karlštejn Castle was built by Charles IV in 1348 to preserve the precious coronation jewels. Today, the Gothic castle is one of the Czech Republic's biggest attractions.Day 7 - From Karlštejn to Prague 45 kmAlong the Berounka and Vltava rivers, you will ride this last day of cycling in a wonderfully quiet and flat way to the final hotel in the 'Golden City' of Prague. This beautifully intact capital of the Czech Republic has many highlights, such as Charles Bridge and the Jewish cemetery.Day 8 - Departure or extension in Prague
